Thank you for taking the time to look around this site!
As discussed in the Introduction to Mindful Investing, I envision this site becoming a community an informed and spiritual approach to spending, saving, and investing. Over my life I have developed many passions, among them biology, sociology, economics, and spirituality.
These may come off as disparate, but I have come to believe that they form the pillars for a type of happiness that money can buy. Essentially, the focus is not on impulsive or ostentatious spending, but on the practice of mindful investing for a fuller life.
Like many, I suspect, I am sometimes led astray by opportunities to indulge. I do not subscribe to religion, but I do think that there is more to life than the material. Constant bombardment by advertising increases my FOMO and so I see Capitao as an outlet to stay on the path of a journey I choose.
Capitao is a portmanteau of the words capital and tao:
- Capital derives from the proto-Indo-European kaput, which means head., Back then, wealth was measured by the ownership of animals and control of other people. The terms chattel (meaning goods, animals, or slaves) and cattle also derive from this same origin. The word has come to signify wealth, money, and other valuables.
- Tao, according to Chinese philosophy, is the absolute ‘principle’ or ‘path’ underlying the universe signifying a way that is in harmony with the natural order.
Capitao combines the Western roots of capitalism with the Eastern respect for nature and harmony.
I invite you on a journey with me to explore this concept more to see how you too can improve your life. I look forward to learning with you so please share your own experiences and areas that you’d like us to explore together.
